Contributed to full-stack development for the iOS Knoable app and cloud-based backend platform that enable collaborative, digital storytelling for mobile users.

Architected and delivered full-stack capabilities to support user registration, passwordless user authentication, and off-platform user onboarding flows, to support low-friction viral growth of the user base.

Responsible for the backend stack and infrastructure - building, deploying and maintaining scalable, highly-available Knoable web services.

The iOS Knoable App was released on the Apple App Store in June 2016.

In a part-time volunteer role, contributed to CodeVana’s mission to “Democratize Coding” by assisting with instructional coding programs and launching and updating CodeVana’s web and community sites.

Led instruction for week-long Idea 2 Reality coding camp and assisted with instruction for week-long Breakaway With Code camp; provided instruction for coding days at OutsideIn and p:ear.

Story Teller

StoryTeller is a reactive, mobile-friendly text-based storytelling web application. This was a personal project for me, I wanted to experiment with this dynamic collaborative story creation concept and it was a good project for learning the Node.js + Meteor framework more in-depth.

Boise DateFort

Fun little hackathon project built in a couple of days during Hackfort 2015. Datefort uses the Boise Parks open data set to randomly select an activity and the Yelp API to randomly select a nearby dinner option to suggest date ideas for people in Boise.

I first created a simple backend with Spring Boot (the team preferred Java) then as we simplified the app, it became Javascript-only with no backend. I took on a DevOps role towards the end, building a web server in the cloud, pushing updates up to it as we debugged and fixed code in the last minute.

It turns out people really liked the app - and we won the Hackfort 2015 hackathon!

Papa Punk Blog

This is another personal project. Papa Punk is a space on the web to share stories from my punk rock past and for others to chime in with their own related stories and thoughts.

I started out building this in WordPress with a customized theme and plugin but later discarded for the more lightweight and cleaner look and feel of the Ghost (Node.js-based) blog framework. I customized the Typesome Ghost theme very lightly for this blog. I self-host and maintain this site on DigitalOcean.

Guided the development team responsible for the K12 Online School system, a SaaS learning and content delivery platform powered by a service-oriented architecture designed to provide high availability for students and teachers and to scale as usage and K12 curriculum content grew.

Led team to major school year releases which included capabilities like predictive planning tools and adaptive curriculum content as well as a launch for K12's new Online High School system. Also led team to launch the K12 Online Enrollment system which has been instrumental in increasing K12 enrollment numbers each year since launch.
